Razer BlackWidow X Ultimate

The BlackWidow X is a new keyboard series, introduced by Razer as a budget friendly option in March 2016. The Razer BlackWidow X Ultimate is the minimalist version of the BlackWidow Ultimate. And while there are some cut-offs, it doesn’t necessary mean, that the BlackWidow X model is cheaper than the original model. In a lot of stores, the the BlackWidow X is actually more expensive than the BlackWidow Ultimate.

Razer BlackWidow X Ultimate Features

The feature set of the BlackWidow X Ultimate is very similar to that from the BlackWidow Ultimate. It is a mechanical gaming keyboard and has a 10-key roll-over anti ghosting system. So it’s perfectly fine for all sort of games. The backlight illumination has the characteristic green color, just like all the other BlackWidow Ulimate keyboards. It supports several lightening effects like breathing, lightening up in waves or reacting to user inputs. The keys are fully programmable, macros can be recorded for every arbitrary key. So far, there are no differences between the BlackWidow X Ultimate and the BlackWidow Ultimate.

The probably most important alteration with new BlackWidow X is its new look. The keyboard uses a smaller and less clunky font and it has no top cover. The keys are therefore exposed on the metal construction. Furthermore, the Audio and USB passthrough got cut in the BlackWidow X model to enable a lower price.

BlackWidow X Ultimate vs BlackWidow Ultimate

So, overall the two keyboards are really very similar and it’s mainly a choice of taste which keyboard to take. If you like the exposed metal top mounting and the new font, then you should take the BlackWidow X Ultimate. If you don’t like it, you better stick with the classic BlackWidow Ultimate. And if you actually want to have RGB lightening, you probably should take a look at the BlackWidow Chroma or BlackWidow X Chroma.

Razer BlackWidow X Ultimate Availability

Right now, the keyboard is only available with US layout and there were no announcement of other layouts following. If you need another keyboard layout, you therefore have to choose one of the alternatives like the BlackWidow (X) Chroma, the BlackWidow Ultimate or maybe even a keyboard from a completely different manufacturer.
