Das Keyboard 4C TKL

Das Keyboard 4C TKL

Das Keyboard 4C is the compact model of its big brother Das Keyboard 4. It is a tenkeyless mechanical keyboard, meaning that it has no numpad. It was first introduced in January 2015 and it received a major update in 2020, bringing PBT keycaps, Cherry MX switches and an updated firmware to Das Keyboard 4C.

Compact Keyboard with USB Hub

You shouldn’t expect many spectacular features when buying Das Keyboard 4C. It has neither background illumination, dedicated media or macro keys, nor a wrist rest. The probably most exciting feature is its integrated 2-port USB hub. So you can, for example, simultaneously charge your phone and plug in a USB hard drive. Apart from that you simply get a robust keyboard with small footprint. If that’s what you are looking for, then Das Keyboard 4C TKL might be a great fit.

Distinguish different versions

While Das Keyboard 4 was always built with Cherry MX switches, it was not the case for the tenkeyless version. Metadot decided to use switches from Greentech there. Only the new version, available since May 2020, also features Cherry MX switches. Moreover, it uses more durable PBT keycaps instead of cheaper ABS keycaps. When buying Das Keyboard 4C TKL, it is therefore important, to check which version is sold. When both are sold at similar prices, the new version should clearly be preferred. You can spot the 2020-version by its use of Cherry MX Brown switches.
