BlackWidow V4 Pro 75%

Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro 75%

The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% is a wireless mechanical gaming keyboard with a small OLED display. Special efforts have been paid to the internal structure of the keyboard, more on that later in the text. Due to the 75% form factor, the keyboard is only about 15 inch wide and comes without a numpad.

A Look Inside

In most cases, manufacturers provide little information about how a keyboard is actually constructed on the inside. With the BlackWidow V4 Pro 75%, however, Razer provides rather deep insights: A white FR4 plate, two layers of foam and additional adhesive strips on the PCB are used. The aim of this structure is to ensure a good keystroke and create a deep, pleasant sound.

The keyboard’s tactile Razer Orange switches are hot-swappable, meaning they can be replaced with other 3- or 5-pin switches without soldering. A 2-in-1 puller for switches and keycaps is included with the keyboard. Three Razer Orange switches are also included as a reserve, which can prove useful if a single switch becomes defective over time. The stabilizers were lubricated with Krytox GPL 205g0, a popular product in the modding scene.

Fast Wireless Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

The BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% comes with versatile connection options supporting Bluetooth 5.1 and Razer HyperSpeed (2.4 GHz wireless). According to the manufacturer, the integrated battery is designed for up to 2100 hours of continuous operation in energy saving mode.

The keyboard features a polling rate of 4000 Hz even in wireless operation, meaning there is virtually no delay in signal processing. While in everyday use, it won’t be distinguishable whether the polling rate is 1000 or 4000 Hertz, but in professional gaming, even fractions of a millisecond can make a difference. The fact that the BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% is a gaming keyboard is also underlined by other features such as RGB lighting, full N-key rollover, an explicit gaming mode, and extensive configuration options for profiles and macros. Multimedia keys and a magnetic palm rest round off the overall package.

Differences to the Razer BlackWidow V4 75%

It’s only been a little over a year since Razer released the BlackWidow V4 75%. Is it worth upgrading? We explain the differences between the Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% and the BlackWidow V4 75%.

Perhaps the most important arguments for an upgrade are the wireless capabilities of the Pro version. While the V4 75% could only be connected via cable, the new Pro version now also offers Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz wireless. In addition, the internal structure has been completely renewed and the ABS keycaps have been replaced with more durable double-shot PBT keycaps. The OLED display is also completely new in the Pro version. A wide variety of information such as battery level, audio visualizer or CPU usage can be displayed here. And of course, there are also emojis and animations.

The command dial can control volume, playback and various settings. Information is shown on the adjacent OLED display.

All in all, there are some good new features and improvements – so if money is not too much of an issue, it is probably worth going for the Pro version.

"The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% is a seriously premium wireless gaming keyboard with exceptional build quality and performance. The hot-swappable design and multiple connectivity options are a boon as well. There are a few niggles with the Synapse software, and it can be hard to justify its market-topping price when rivals featuring analog tweakability are cheaper. But if you’re only interested in an unadulterated mechanical experience, it should be at the top of your list."

"This board offers a phenomenal experience for gamers and typists alike and comes packed with some welcome extras. But $300 is a steep price to pay, while its 75% layout won't be for everyone."

"The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% targets an all-new demographic of hardcore keyboard enthusiasts, and it truly feels like the best keyboard Razer has ever made. It looks, sounds, and feels a step above the vast majority of keyboards out there and packs some premium features to boot, but that price tag is a very hard pill to swallow, especially when you still have to deal with some quirks."

"The BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% is way ahead of the competition in terms of quality, with enough customization to make the keyboard truly your own. With a mixed metal/plastic build, an OLED screen, one of the best companion apps around, and some wonderful tactile switches, this is an all-rounder that does everything you could reasonably ask from a gaming keyboard. As much as I love it, though, it’s tricky to recommend at MSRP, as cheaper keyboards offer similar features."

"The wireless upgrade for one of the best gaming keyboards on the market comes with a huge price increase and a screen it doesn’t need. It still offers fantastic typing and gaming, but this one’s for Razer mega-fans only."
