The term USB passthrough refers to a USB port on the keyboard that allows you to connect an additional USB device, like for example a USB drive or your mouse. It comes in particularly handy if the other USB ports on your computer are rather difficult to reach. To ensure that the connected device gets enough power, keyboards with USB passthrough usually require an additional USB connection to the computer, i.e., they take two USB ports.
