Cooler Master MasterKeys Pro

Cooler Master MasterKeys Pro

MasterKeys Pro L and MasterKeys Pro S are the first two RGB backlit mechanical keyboards from Cooler Master. At first glance, the keyboards looks similar to the most recent keyboard model from Cooler Master, the Quick Fire XTi.

RGB Backlit Mechanical Keyboard

The MasterKeys Pro is a mechanical gaming keyboard with a lot of features. It comes with an interesting Anti-Ghosting Technology, automatically switching over from 6-key rollover to N-key rollover when needed. This makes the keyboard more compatible, while still allowing the full performance on supported systems. Like every serious gaming keyboard, the MasterKeys Pro allows to lock the windows key.

There are no dedicated macro keys or media controls, but macros can easily be assigned to every arbitrary key. The backlighting of the MasterKeys Pro supports 16,7 million colors and can be adjusted in many ways. There are many different illumination modes, including Color Wave, Breathing and several responsive effects. Macros and illumination can be configured via the included software or without – the keyboard itself offers controls to adjust everything on-the-fly. The backlighting and macros are saved to one of four profiles. You can easily switch between the profiles at any time by pressing the correspondent profile key. This comes in very handy when customizing different macros for various games.

Full-Size or Tenkeyless

As all mechanical keyboard from Cooler Master, the MasterKeys Pro uses Cherry MX Switches. The keyboard is available with Cherry MX Blue, Mx Brown and MX Red switches. There are three different versions of the keyboard: Pro L, Pro M and Pro S. The MasterKeys Pro L is the full-size version and the MasterKeys Pro S is the compact version with a tenkeyless design. Besides the MasterKeys Pro L has some cable management grooves hidden underside.

The MasterKeys Pro M was introduces a little bit later and is a compromise between L and S. The keyboard does have a numpad, but no arrow keys.

6.6 out of 10 points

"Overall, the MasterKeys Pro L RGB is a bit of a weird duck. If you're the type of gamer who is just looking for a super simple Cherry MX keyboard and don't want to hassle with software, it's respectable. The keys are pretty great overall and the build quality is decent. But for around the same amount of cash there are much better options."

"While the idea of a 'hybrid TKL' board is certainly interesting and could appeal to many, Cooler Master have not executed it as well as I had hoped."
